The Koine was written and spoken since 300 b.c and it was the first common dialect of all Greece that came to serve as a common language in the eastern Mediterranean and ancient Near East during the Roman period. It was also the original language the New Testament of the Bible and the Septuagint (the Greek translation of Jewish scriptures). The Koine is one of the principal ancestors of modern Greek.
